ERPNext vs Zoho Books and Zoho One comparison for growing Indian businesses

ERPNext vs Zoho Books comes down to scope. Zoho Books is cloud accounting with GST and basic inventory, priced per organisation. ERPNext is a full open-source ERP (accounts, stock, manufacturing, HR, CRM and POS) with no licence fee, where you pay for implementation and hosting instead.

If you only need GST billing and books, Zoho Books is usually cheaper and quicker. If you need manufacturing, multi-warehouse stock, approvals and deep customisation in one system, ERPNext usually wins as you grow. This post compares them, plus Zoho One, with 2026 Indian prices.

Who this is for: owners and finance heads of Indian SMEs (trading, distribution, manufacturing, retail and services, roughly 5 to 200 staff) who use Zoho Books today or are choosing between Zoho and ERPNext, including businesses in Kozhikode and across Kerala.

Key takeaways

  • Zoho Books India plans run from a free plan to ₹749, ₹1,499, ₹2,999 and ₹4,999 per organisation per month (billed annually, before GST), with user and invoice limits per plan.
  • Zoho One costs ₹1,250 per employee per month on the All-Employee plan or ₹3,500 per user per month on the Flexible plan (billed annually, before GST).
  • ERPNext has no licence or per-user fee. You pay for implementation, hosting (Frappe Cloud from ₹410 a month) and optional support.
  • Choose ERPNext when you need manufacturing, job work, multi-level approvals, custom workflows or full data ownership. Stay on Zoho Books if accounting and GST are most of your need.

Zoho Books pricing in India (2026)

Zoho Books publishes these India plans, billed annually and excluding 18% GST:

Plan Price per org per month Users included Invoices per year
Free ₹0 (for turnover up to ₹25 lakh) 1 user + 1 accountant 1,000
Standard ₹749 3 5,000
Professional ₹1,499 5 10,000
Premium ₹2,999 10 25,000
Elite ₹4,999 15 1,00,000

Extra users cost ₹150 per user per month billed annually (₹180 monthly). Extra locations, payroll employees and other add-ons are also charged separately. Advanced inventory such as multiple warehouses and bin locations sits in the Elite plan.

Zoho One pricing in India and the per-employee catch

Zoho One bundles most Zoho apps. On Zoho's official India pricing (billed annually, before GST):

  • All-Employee plan: ₹1,250 per employee per month (₹2,500 billed monthly). You licence every employee in the company, including people who never log in.
  • Flexible User plan: ₹3,500 per user per month (₹4,000 billed monthly). You licence only the people who use it.

For a factory or distributor with many shop-floor or field staff, the All-Employee rule makes Zoho One expensive. Zoho has also launched a separate per-user Zoho ERP product in India, which is not included in Zoho One. We compared Zoho One in more detail in our earlier post on ERPNext vs Zoho One.

ERPNext pricing: what you actually pay

ERPNext has no licence fee at any size. Your costs are:

  • Implementation: Nexeves typically charges ₹60,000–₹90,000 for a small business, ₹1–3 lakh for mid-sized and ₹4–8 lakh for large or multi-branch projects, depending on scope.
  • Hosting: Frappe Cloud shared plans are ₹410, ₹820, ₹2,050, ₹3,075 and ₹4,100 a month. See the official ERPNext pricing page.
  • Support (optional): an annual maintenance contract, priced by scope.

Our ERPNext implementation cost guide for India breaks this down further.

Cost comparison: a 15-user business over one year

Licence and hosting only, before GST, using published prices. Implementation is one-time and shown separately.

Option Year 1 software cost What it covers
Zoho Books Premium (10 users + 5 add-on users) ₹35,988 + ₹9,000 = ₹44,988 Accounting, GST, basic inventory. No manufacturing
Zoho One Flexible (15 users) 15 × ₹3,500 × 12 = ₹6,30,000 Full Zoho suite for 15 named users
Zoho One All-Employee (40 employees, 15 using it) 40 × ₹1,250 × 12 = ₹6,00,000 Full Zoho suite, every employee licensed
ERPNext on Frappe Cloud (₹2,050–₹4,100/month) ₹24,600–₹49,200 + one-time implementation Full ERP incl. manufacturing, HR, CRM, POS

How to read this: Zoho Books is the lowest total for pure accounting. ERPNext costs more in year one because of implementation, but software costs stay flat as you add users. The gap against Zoho One widens every year.

Where Zoho Books is the better choice

  • Accounting and GST are 80% of your need, with simple stock and no production.
  • You want to start this week without an implementation project.
  • You are under the plan limits for users and invoices, and don't expect to cross them soon.
  • Your accountant already works in Zoho and your processes are standard.

When ERPNext is the better choice over Zoho Books

  • You manufacture. BOMs, work orders, job work with ITC-04 and product costing are core ERPNext features. See our guide to ERPNext manufacturing for Kerala SMEs.
  • You run several warehouses, branches or companies and need inter-branch transfers and consolidation.
  • You need approvals and custom workflows that match how your business really works.
  • You have many staff who need light access, such as storekeepers, supervisors or sales reps, and per-user pricing hurts.
  • You want to own your data and code, with the option to self-host or change partners.

ERPNext covers stock in depth; our ERPNext inventory management page shows what is included.

Migrating from Zoho Books to ERPNext

Moving is usually straightforward because Zoho Books exports clean data:

  1. Export masters: customers, vendors, items and chart of accounts.
  2. Decide your cut-over date, ideally the start of a month or quarter, and bring opening balances as of that date.
  3. Map GST settings (GSTINs, HSN/SAC codes, tax templates) into the India Compliance app.
  4. Run both systems in parallel for a short period if your team needs confidence.
  5. Keep Zoho read-only for history, or import past transactions only if you really need them.

Frequently asked questions

Is ERPNext better than Zoho Books?

It depends on scope. Zoho Books is simpler and cheaper for accounting, GST billing and light inventory. ERPNext is better when you need manufacturing, multi-warehouse stock, approvals, HR or custom workflows in one system, because it has no per-user licence fee and you can customise it fully.

How much does Zoho Books cost in India in 2026?

Zoho Books India plans, billed annually and before GST, are free for small businesses with turnover up to ₹25 lakh, then ₹749, ₹1,499, ₹2,999 and ₹4,999 per organisation per month. Each plan includes a set number of users and invoices, and extra users cost ₹150 per month.

Is ERPNext free compared with Zoho One?

ERPNext has no licence fee, while Zoho One costs ₹1,250 per employee per month on the All-Employee plan or ₹3,500 per user per month on the Flexible plan, billed annually. With ERPNext you pay for implementation, hosting from ₹410 a month on Frappe Cloud and optional support instead.

Can Zoho Books handle manufacturing?

Zoho Books is accounting software and does not include production features such as multi-level BOMs, work orders, job cards or subcontracting. ERPNext includes all of these, linked to stock, GST job-work records and accounts. Growing manufacturers usually move to ERPNext for this reason.

How long does it take to migrate from Zoho Books to ERPNext?

For a small business with clean data, migrating masters and opening balances is a matter of weeks within the overall project. At Nexeves, a mid-sized implementation usually goes live in 2–3 months, depending on scope, modules and how much transaction history you choose to bring across.

Does ERPNext support GST e-invoicing like Zoho Books?

Yes. ERPNext uses the free, open-source India Compliance app for GST returns, e-invoices, e-way bills and GSTIN validation, with API features included on Frappe Cloud and paid credits on self-hosted sites. Zoho Books includes GST features within its subscription plans.
