ERPNext vs Odoo in 2026 comes down to one big difference: ERPNext has no licence fee at all, while Odoo's full feature set (Enterprise) is a per-user monthly subscription. Both handle Indian GST and Gulf VAT, both need a good implementation partner, and both can run a growing SME well. This guide compares cost, licensing, GST/VAT support and fit, so you can choose with real numbers.
Who this is for: owners and finance heads of SMEs with roughly 5 to 150 users in India (including Kerala) and the GCC: the UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi), Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah), Qatar (Doha), Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman (Muscat). Nexeves implements both ERPNext and Odoo, so this is a like-for-like view.
Key takeaways
- Licensing: ERPNext is GPLv3 with one free edition. Odoo Community is free (LGPLv3) but limited; Odoo Enterprise is paid per user.
- India list price for Odoo (Oct 2026): ₹725 per user per month on Standard and ₹1,350 on Custom, billed yearly. ERPNext: ₹0 in licences, hosting from ₹410 a month on Frappe Cloud.
- GST and VAT: both support Indian GST e-invoicing and e-way bills, UAE VAT and Saudi ZATCA, through apps or localisation modules.
- Rule of thumb: the more users you have, the stronger ERPNext's cost case; Odoo appeals if you want vendor-hosted software and are happy to pay per seat.

Licensing: what you actually pay for
ERPNext is released under GPLv3 and there is only one edition. Accounting, inventory, manufacturing, HR and POS are all in the free software.
You pay for implementation, hosting and optional support. Read our full ERPNext implementation cost guide for ₹ ranges.
Odoo has two editions. Community is open source under LGPLv3, but several apps and features exist only in Enterprise, which requires a paid subscription. If the subscription lapses, the Enterprise licence ends.

ERPNext vs Odoo cost in India and the GCC
Here are Odoo's published India prices as of October 2026 (per user per month, before tax):
| Odoo plan | Billed yearly | Billed monthly | What it adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| One App Free | ₹0 | ₹0 | One app, unlimited users |
| Standard | ₹725 | ₹950 | All apps, Odoo Online hosting |

Licence-only illustration for 20 users, list prices, billed yearly:
- Odoo Standard: 20 × ₹725 × 12 = ₹1,74,000 a year
- Odoo Custom: 20 × ₹1,350 × 12 = ₹3,24,000 a year
- ERPNext: ₹0 in licences, plus hosting from ₹410 a month on Frappe Cloud's entry plan (larger teams need bigger plans)
Implementation is extra for both. For Odoo budgets, see our planned guide to Odoo implementation cost in India and the UAE.
In the GCC, Odoo sets prices by country, so businesses in Dubai, Riyadh, Doha, Kuwait City, Manama or Muscat should check odoo.com/pricing from their own location. The structure is the same: per user, per month, Standard or Custom. ERPNext's licence cost is zero everywhere.

GST support in India
ERPNext uses the free India Compliance app for GSTIN validation, HSN codes, e-invoices, e-way bills, GSTR-1 and purchase reconciliation. On Frappe Cloud the API features are included; self-hosted sites buy API credits. Our ERPNext GST setup guide shows each step.
Odoo has an Indian localisation with modules for e-invoicing, e-way bills and GST return filing, connected through a GSP. Confirm with your partner which of these modules your chosen edition and plan include.
VAT and e-invoicing in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman
GCC tax rules differ by country, so your ERP must be configured per entity:
| Country | VAT position (Oct 2026) | What to check in your ERP |
|---|---|---|
| UAE (Dubai, Abu Dhabi) | 5% VAT. E-invoicing from 1 Jan 2027 for revenue of AED 50 million or more, and from 1 Jul 2027 for others | VAT 201 return, and readiness to connect to an Accredited Service Provider |
| Saudi Arabia (Riyadh, Jeddah) | 15% VAT, ZATCA Phase 2 e-invoicing rolled out in waves | ZATCA integration (clearance and reporting) |
| Bahrain | 10% VAT since 1 Jan 2022 | VAT return reports |
| Oman (Muscat) | 5% VAT since April 2021 | VAT return reports |
| Qatar (Doha) | VAT had not been introduced as of Oct 2026 | Multi-currency, Arabic print formats, readiness for future tax rules |
| Kuwait | VAT had not been introduced as of Oct 2026 | Multi-currency, Arabic print formats |
ERPNext includes UAE VAT settings and a UAE VAT 201 report; Saudi ZATCA Phase 2 is handled by apps on the Frappe marketplace. Odoo documents UAE and Saudi localisations, including ZATCA e-invoicing.
For UAE timelines, see the UAE Ministry of Finance e-invoicing announcement. Trading companies should also read our guide to ERPNext for trading and distribution in the UAE/GCC.
Customisation, hosting and partner support
- Customisation: ERPNext lets you add custom fields, scripts, workflows and full Frappe apps without a licence upgrade. In Odoo, Studio, multi-company and external API access sit on the Custom plan.
- Hosting: Odoo Online is included in the subscription but doesn't run custom modules; Odoo.sh costs extra. ERPNext runs on Frappe Cloud, a partner-managed server or your own server.
- Partners: both rely heavily on partners for implementation. Pick one that has done projects in your industry and country.
When to choose ERPNext, and when Odoo
Choose ERPNext if:
- you expect to add users over time and don't want per-seat fees
- you need manufacturing, stock across branches, HR and accounting in one system
- you want full control of hosting, code and data
Choose Odoo if:
- you want vendor-hosted software and are happy with a yearly per-user subscription
- you value Odoo's wide app catalogue and polished interface
- you have few users, so licence fees stay small

Frequently asked questions
Is ERPNext cheaper than Odoo?
On licences, yes. ERPNext has no licence fee or per-user charge, while Odoo Enterprise charges per user every month; in India the list price is ₹725 (Standard) or ₹1,350 (Custom) per user per month, billed yearly. Implementation can cost similar amounts for both, so the gap grows with every user and year.
Is Odoo Community the same as ERPNext?
No. Both are open source, but Odoo Community (LGPLv3) leaves out the Enterprise-only apps and features, so many businesses end up needing Enterprise or third-party modules. ERPNext (GPLv3) has a single edition with no paid tier, so accounting, stock, manufacturing, HR and POS are all in the free version.
Which is better for GST in India, ERPNext or Odoo?
Both support Indian GST, e-invoicing and e-way bills. ERPNext uses the free India Compliance app, with API features included on Frappe Cloud. Odoo uses its India localisation modules with a GSP connection. Test both with your own invoices and return workflow before deciding, because setup quality matters more than the brand.
Does ERPNext support UAE VAT and Saudi ZATCA?
Yes. ERPNext includes UAE VAT settings and a UAE VAT 201 report, and Saudi ZATCA Phase 2 e-invoicing is handled through apps on the Frappe marketplace. Odoo documents UAE and Saudi localisations, including ZATCA e-invoicing. In both cases, test with real invoices before you go live.
Which ERP is better for SMEs in the GCC?
It depends on users, budget and in-house skills. ERPNext suits growing teams in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman that want no per-user licence. Odoo suits businesses that want vendor-hosted software with a polished app store and are comfortable with yearly per-user subscriptions.
Can I switch from Odoo to ERPNext later?
Yes, but it is a full migration: masters, open balances, open orders and stock need to be exported, mapped and imported, and custom modules rebuilt. It is easier to choose carefully up front. If you are already on Odoo and happy, switching only makes sense when licence or customisation costs are clearly hurting.
